Anyone who grows rhubarb in the garden knows that the vegetables are quite undemanding. However, you should share your rhubarb at least every ten years. This enables you to achieve a higher yield.

But how do you properly divide a rhubarb plant?
You should always split your rhubarb with a shovel. Make sure that the new plants have at least three to four buds. It is always divided in autumn. The ideal time is when the first leaves turn brown. If you divide your rhubarb too early, you run the risk that the plant will not have enough strength to grow. Since the rhubarb roots should not remain in the air for too long, you have to dig out the new planting hole before dividing. To do this, you have to loosen the soil as deeply as possible and mix it with ripe compost. Rhubarb should always be planted in a sunny place.

Rhubarb needs a closed season
After planting, you must now water the rhubarb well and additionally mulch with compost. In the first two years, you should not harvest the rhubarb plant that has been transplanted, as it needs a close season. That is why you should leave part of the stick where it was and only replant after these two years. After these two years you can harvest a lot of rhubarb.
